About the "Seidfeld milking house & straw barn" project

Cows need different light than we do. We learned this during the development of our lighting concept for the newly built cattle barn in Sundern, which offers space for 225 animals in cubicles and various functional areas on a floor area of 74 x 34 m. At 380 – 620 nm, cattle perceive a lower color spectrum in the red range than humans. How stables must be illuminated in order to provide a species-appropriate environment and a safe workplace for farmers is regulated by the German Workplace and Animal Welfare Livestock Farming Ordinance.

Natural, practical, good

Depending on the light intensity and switching cycles, the following functional areas are differentiated in the new barn: Eating, lying down, walking, dry standing, calves and young cattle, separation of sick animals and milking. Our HIGHBAY series was chosen because of the lighting requirements and the harsh environmental conditions. The advantages are obvious: it enables
uniform illumination of the area. With an installation height of 4.80 m, no passing vehicles are
Agricultural machinery obstructed.

The heat radiates upwards and therefore does not have a negative effect on the temperature in the animals’ living area. Restrictive dirt deposits and light clouding in the functional lighting area are not to be expected and freedom from maintenance and good energy efficiency are further plus points of this lighting solution. Incidentally, the light sources used have a less pronounced red component. And the official requirements for barn lighting are met with an average illuminance of 200 lux with high uniformity and a CRI of 80, in some cases even significantly exceeded.
