About the "Monastery of the Good Shepherd" project

The Convent of the Good Shepherd in Aachen was extensively renovated and converted into a student residence. The listed building was also fitted with modern LED lighting technology. A project with special requirements: Visually straightforward, discreet lighting suits the historic monastery corridors. Due to the preservation order, we were not allowed to interfere with the building structure and used the existing 230V connections. Nevertheless, we wanted to equip the old monastery building with a self-sufficient, intelligent and controllable system. This enabled DREES to combine good efficiency and eligibility, as well as economic and ecological advantages.

Our EPIC LED profile was ideal for lighting the long corridors. With a total output of max. 60W/m, direct and indirect lighting concepts can be realized. In the corridors of the old monastery building, they create a consistently homogeneous
Illumination of the vaulted ceiling. The new EPIC-FOCUS insert can also be used to create direct light withmUGR < 16, which emphasizes the entrances to the apartments with a focus on the floor in front of the doors. With their filigree wire suspension, the lights blend discreetly and stylishly into the historical ambience. The entire system is equipped with internal Casambi modules and motion detectors. The lighting in the dormitory is controlled at certain intensities depending on the amount of daylight and the time of day.
