Since 2023, various obsolete light sources (including compact fluorescent lamps with plug-in bases, fluorescent lamps in ring form and of type T8 and T5) may no longer be imported onto the European market.
For years, many companies were won over by their low price, long service life and supposedly good energy balance. However, LED technology is actually much more advanced nowadays: modern LED solutions have reached such a high level that they outperform previous light sources.
LED technology is also much more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than conventional light sources. Up to 80 % energy can be saved by converting to modern LED technologies (compared to conventional lighting). Fluorescent lamps are therefore real power guzzlers. In addition, the use of toxic chemicals such as mercury, which is contained in fluorescent lamps, is eliminated.
